Slick-looking & with an eye-catching array of contemporary art on the walls of an otherwise minimal white space, 11 Abingdon Road is as well suited to its Kensington locale as siblings The Phoenix in Putney & Sonny’s in Barnes. Italian influences permeate a menu that emphasises fresh seasonality & subtle flavours, with fine ingredients backed by careful cooking & attractive presentation. A zesty starter of oozing buffalo mozzarella with char-grilled courgettes, broad beans, dandelion & lemon might be followed by a meltingly slow-cooked shin of roast Limousin veal that slides from the bone into its accompaniments of spinach, artichoke & gremolata. Deftly executed desserts such as floating islands with creme anglaise, caramel & toasted almonds maintain momentum.
