A designer deli where food tastes every bit as unnervingly good as it looks, Ottolenghi’s star is in the ascendant. The original four, which have near-evangelical followings in their ultra-chic neighbourhoods, have recently been joined by a large Soho flagship call Nopi, meaning that just about everyone can now see what all the fuss is about. The scene is a food-lover’s heaven: counters groaning with bold, zingy dishes, including colourful salads (chickpea, butternut squash & chard with a mint yoghurt dressing), cold savouries (shallot, potato & goat’s cheese tatin) & sweet things (pear & cranberry upside-down cake), for eating in or taking away. Some branches also do cooked food, including breakfasts of French toast & daily changing lunches with a strong Med-meets-Middle East slant. If you can’t make it to one of their outlets, you could always invest in copies of Yotam Ottolenghi’s best-selling cookbooks for a little vicarious pleasure.
