A Mexican wave has washed over London these last few years, but E2’s Green & Red succeeds in being totally different from the competition. Eschewing greasy gringo Tex-Mex & trendy California-Mexican in favour of the real thing, G&R’s stock in trade is rare Tequilas (more than 100 – count ’em), cocktails (‘very moreish, so be warned’), & Jaliscan street food. Menus haven’t changed much over the years. Antojitos (appetisers from £3.50) still include jicama salad & octopus ceviche, while gut-busting ‘platos fuertos’ (mains) might be lamb shank with ancho chilli & spices or rib-eye with chipotle salsa. Cheaper taco & burrito lunches are now available for around a fiver. Both restaurant & bar have taken time to bed down, but the cool music, graffiti art, happy-go-lucky staff & daft menu glossary (entitled ‘WTF am I eating?’) suggest they’ve finally nailed it.

Went there for a Xmas party and was very unhappy with the food and service. Whilst I appreciate that Xmas parties can be a boozy, chaotic affair that doesnt give a bar/restaurant the excuse to short-change their paying guests on the amount of food on show.

Where were the Chimigangas?, Enchiladas? etc…Yes it was a set menu but the quantities were small and stodgy, little meat, all fat…and the nachos were stale…

In addition the atmosphere was quite sterile and there was a distinct lack of authentic Mexican about the place.

Really felt that the staff did not make us feel welcome and to be frank, with the quality of food of offer, would have been better off at a TGI's…

Oh well at the least the Margaritas were half-decent and made the food go down more easily…

Food is fab, but the restaurant is noisy and there seemed to be some confusion about the Happy Hour menu – we were encouraged to order drinks from it, but were then charged full price. Other than that a good night, not great, but good enough.

Excellent food, the meat so tender, just melting away. The main courses are very filling, esp if you have had some nachos and margaritas to start with.

The cocktail list is fairly extensive, and they are very moreish so be warned.

Very nice atmosphere, delicious food and wellcoming service. Although it may get quite busy on weekends, so book unless you don't mind waiting a little bit.
