Drinks at Maze’s 1950s airport lounge-style counter are an economical way to bask in Gordon Ramsay’s reflected glow. Even if you’re not a fan, you’ll still do well to drop in: Maze’s cocktails are universally excellent, & the bookies will give you long odds that the world’s favourite celebrity chef won’t actually be in the house. Skilfully crafted cocktails such as chocolate sazerac, beetroot & chocolate martini, & damson 75 are interesting & unexpected – so too blackberry Manhattan & blood orange. The signature ‘amazing margarita’ (£11) is very decent, but prepare to be truly amazed if you’re picking up the tab for a couple of Kauffman ‘private collection’ martinis (£114). To nibble, order global tapas from the restaurant kitchen – think salt & pepper squid, manchego & ham croquetas, & Szechuan prawns.
