Nobu Berkeley St Bar
Imagine a Manga flying saucer crash-landed in an episode of The Twilight Zone and you get some idea of David Collins’ brilliant yet bonkers design for the bar at Nobu Berkeley St. It’s a real looker, even if some of its strange orange-tanned incumbents are not quite ‘on the style pulse’ these days. Nevertheless, Nobu’s east-meets-west cocktails are still very much on the money – think Japanese mojito, kaffir lime and lychee martini or jasmine ro zu (a vodka, rose petal liqueur and jasmine tea flip). As you might expect, saké features prominently: pay around £13 for entry-level distillations or push the boat out with rarities such as Hokesetsu Cho Dai-Gingo YK 35 at £100 per 300ml serving. Sushi, sashimi and seafood are among the low-calorie foodie choices in a throbbing room where shouting seems to be de rigueur.
