A reliable place to look for decent traditional Vietnamese food in the west of the capital, Saigon Saigon’s heavy bamboo & dark wood room, with its Buddha statues, makes an atmospheric backdrop to a meal. We’ve no complaints about the food either, which attracts a steady stream of diners who also appreciate the reasonable prices. Kick off with crunchily fresh salad rolls with shrimp & pork in rice paper or char-grilled prawns kebabed on sugarcane sticks. Move on to beef with lemongrass & chilli, whole sea bream with rice wine, garlic & chilli, or a steamboat – a sort of stock-based Vietnamese fondue. Staff are ‘delightful’ & more than happy to guide customers around the menu.
