Square Meal review of The Arbiter:
This food-friendly modern boozer opened at the beginning of 2007 on a rather restaurant-deprived stretch of North End Road. Its combination of good looks (stylish wallpaper & glitzy chandeliers next to exposed brickwork & large leather couches) & good food proved popular with locals. Unusually, the menu juxtaposes hearty British grub such as pork fillet with sage & apple alongside Scandinavian classics of meatballs with mash & redcurrant gravy & a range of smorgåsbord (platters featuring the likes of sweet herring, crayfish tails & gravad lax). But despite the generally positive feedback, there have been grumbles of ‘long waits’, ‘cold food’ & ‘unapologetic’ staff in the last year. No complaints about the 1am licence, live music & real ales, though.
