Square Meal review of Isarn:

Having Alan ‘Hakkasan’ Yau as a brother may have burdened Isarn’s owner Tina Juengsoongnuen with heightened expectations. But after an uncertain beginning, her two-year-old Thai restaurant has settled in as a well-regarded spot on the Upper Street strip, though there remain a few dissenters who have been left ‘underwhelmed’ by the food, especially given the higher than average prices. Most, however, like Isarn, where the dining room is a study in understated chic – all statement lampshades & black wood – which provides an attractive backdrop for the well-turned out dishes. Stand-outs include a starter of crispy duck & pomelo flavoured with lime, coconut & ginger & wrapped in betel leaf, & soft-shell crab dressed with green mango, chilli & coriander. Green curries of monkfish & chicken & red duck curry are very tasty & keep customers flocking back.
