It may have a celebrity chef’s name above the door, but don’t expect glamorous cooking at Rhodes W1 Brasserie. The spiky-haired one plays it safe with a menu that navigates well-charted hotel territory – from egg & bacon salad to start via calf’s liver with mash to white chocolate cheesecake to finish. ‘Nothing really stands out’ say readers who find the approach unimaginative, but rest assured that the classic dishes are handled with a steady hand, good-quality ingredients are sourced from small producers & service is uniformly praised. In contrast to the rather gloomy restaurant at the back populated by hotel guests & business folk talking shop, there’s a buzzing bar where DJs play at the weekend. NB: don’t confuse the Brasserie with The Cumberland Hotel’s recently opened Rhodes W1 Restaurant (see separate review) when booking.
