With its Gucci furnishings, Swarovski-twinkling windows & rich brown colour scheme, Polo’s target market is clearly not the twentysomething after-work crowd; rather, it’s where the Mayfair moneyed set head to for a spot of old-school glamour at up-to-date prices: figure on £11 for a cocktail & wines at upwards of £25 a bottle. This being a hotel bar, however, your platinum card does buy you some skilfully mixed creations: the Chilli Raspberry Martini, for instance, delivers a tangy kick &, if you factor in the shot glass of the mixture served alongside, isn’t at all bad value. Bar nibbles range from Asian-style light bites such as duck spring rolls to more substantial Euro offerings including Dorset crab linguine.
