Once seemingly marooned on Imperial Wharf’s concrete boulevard, Deep is now part of the area’s flourishing drinking & dining scene. The kitchen’s flair for memorable marine fare draws on classical technique & the odd Scandinavian influence with distinctive & delicious results. Sumptuous tuna tartare spiked with salty arctic caviar or silky matjes herrings are shining examples of superior starters. Mains continue to blaze a trail; steamed halibut on the bone comes bearing a Baltic garnish of horseradish, prawns & chopped egg, while paella ‘Deep’ style is an elegantly deconstructed dish of pieces of fish & seafood alongside saffron-scented rice. Fans pleased by the restaurant’s consistent cooking & easy service will no doubt enjoy the room’s refreshed decor, which brings a softer touch to the formerly brash lighting & furnishings.
