Square Meal review of The Garden Cafe:

This pretty little building nestled in Queen Mary’s rose garden does nothing to betray it was once a Little Chef (circa 1964). Constructed from a series of hexagonal units & copper roof turrets, The Garden Cafe’s interior is decked out with pop-art chairs & bathed in natural light thanks to skylights & wraparound windows. Even better are the tables on the idyllic patio outside, which are surrounded by a blooming wall of flowers in summer. The food is the antithesis of Little Chef, too. In keeping with the horticultural setting, the café updates its menu once a month, making particular use of seasonal vegetables; a summer menu might include a broad bean, bacon & spinach salad followed by smoked mackerel with fennel salad, then strawberries & cream. Staff go out of their way to be friendly, but reports of inconsistent cooking & long delays for food need to be addressed.
