From the same stable of contemporary excellence as The Square, The Ledbury is a rare thing for Notting Hill: genuinely smart & classy rather than grungy or trendy. Head chef Brett Graham & his award-garlanded kitchen turn out technically faultless dishes that sparkle with fine flavour combinations that are superbly presented with theatrical swishes of colour. On a regularly changing menu, you might find the much-raved-about lasagne of rabbit & morels with a veloute of thyme, or a terrific assiette of veal with a splendid gratin of macaroni with girolles, white asparagus & toasted almonds. Puds include creamy, distinctively flavoured chicory creme brulée nicely matched with coffee ice-cream & chocolate Madeleines, while ‘a superbly balanced’ tasting menu & ‘best cheese trolley ever’ come in for reader praise. Decked out in a calming cream & charcoal colour scheme, with full-length windows giving onto a terrace, The Ledbury delivers ‘a wonderful dining experience’ backed by ‘professional but unstuffy’ service & a notable wine list.
Chef: Brett Graham
Australian chef, Brett Graham, came to Britain in 2000 &, quite fortuitously, landed himself a job in one of the finest kitchens in London, at Philip Howard’s The Square. Just two years after his arrival, the young chef won one of the industry’s most prestigious awards, Young Chef of the Year. Meanwhile, at The Square, he had managed to climb the ranks to senior sous chef. In 2005, Graham launched The Ledbury with the backing of Howard & restaurateur Nigel Platts-Martin. The Notting Hill-based restaurant pumps out highly accomplished cooking with great attention to detail. A first-class wine list complements the menu perfectly.
