Square Meal review of Sherlock's Bar & Grill:
Much is made of the mesquite wood-burning oven & charcoal grill on view at the back of this open-plan hotel restaurant, so it’s strange that they are not used more in the cooking. True, there are options such as char-grilled rib-eye steak or roast new season lamb, but these are out-numbered by dishes you could find in any restaurant such as bouillabaisse to start & mains of poached salmon or pan-fried lemon sole. A two- or three-course lunch menu for £17.50/£22.50 offers good value & the global wine list has a broad selection for under £30. Claustrophobic or cosy depending on your point of view, the small, low-lit dining room is found behind the noisy bar. And, despite the name, Sherlock Holmes fans in search of signs of the great detective will leave disappointed: this is a resolutely modern property.
