Review of Wagamama Canary Wharf: ? Write your review

Seventeen years down the line, the Wagamama chain continues to win friends with its no-frills approach & a menu that now seems like oriental comfort food. Its reputation remains high, precisely because ‘you know exactly what you are going to get’. What started as a joyful celebration of the humble noodle soup has slowly diversified to embrace a much meatier selection of noodle-based specialities – including star turns such as yaki udon, the trademark chilli ramen soup & teriyaki soba (a new dish of grilled salmon or beef on a bed of teppan-fried soba noodles with teriyaki sauce). Smiling waiters work the communal tables efficiently, & never frown on requests for free green tea. Before you know it, you’ll have all your favourite dish numbers memorised.

I went for a catch up with some old school freinds last week and we went to Wagamama's as it seemed a safe option where you know what to expect and can take your time and chat away as because of the seemingly relaxed atmosphere.
I had been recommended it a couple of years ago but had never visited so this was my Wagamama debut. The seating arrangement and decor was very informal and relaxed as I has expected…it was a shame the waiting staff could not work to the same philosophy! We were rushed to order and when a couple in our party were not ready it was greeted with a huge huff and a sigh…the poor girl!
When the food arrived it was so bland. My dish of “Chilli chicken Men” had my mouth watering with it's desciption and being a keen lover of authentic Noodle dishes it had a lot to live up to.

The obviously microwaved noodles were rubbery and tasteless and the un-inspring one dimensional chilli sauce did little to awake my tastebuds, in fact they were more likely to slip into a coma! The fact that the description of the dish was served with such a range of flavours including lemon grass, red onion garlic ginger and pepper seemed like it could me revised, this dish had only one flavour-chilli- and was a major dissapointment!!

I go to a small authentic Noddle hut near my house in Hampton which is quick, cheap and so extrmely tasty and the service is always with a smile…I imagine this was the idea behind Wagamama when it first started but as usual as the chain grows the spirit flavour and general attention to detail is lost in the pursuit of more cash.

Postive thinking…no…poitively boring…yes!
