Square Meal review of Freud:
Freud turned 21 a couple of years ago & for a bar, that’s positively ancient. Thatcher’s children, nostalgic for the 1980s, will find little changed. Back in the day when Sade ruled the charts, this cafe-cum-bar with bare cement walls, slate floors & metal staircase was considered the last word in yuppie chic. Nowadays, with its arty wall hangings (changed monthly), it feels like an agreeable window onto an era when The Face set the style agenda. Lagers include Staropramen, Warsteiner & Erdinger & the short cocktail list is led by a Jamaican Mule with a more current price tag of £6.65. The daytime café menu is abridged for the evening when pitta & hoummos, olives & nachos are typical snacks.
