This cavernous Brick Lane stalwart is reminiscent of a scruffy student-union bar, where music is to the fore & conversation on the deep, red-leather sofas is a struggle once the nightly live bands or DJs crank up in earnest. The vibe is friendly & unpretentious, attracting anyone from skinny-jeaned Shoreditch types to office workers letting their hair down. In warmer weather, punters crowd onto benches in the Truman Brewery courtyard, where stalls dispensing barbecue burgers, decent pies & crepes help soak up the drink, which runs from Beck’s Vier, Staropramen or Peeterman Artois wheat beer on draught to a good range of £5.50 cocktails.
