Established in 1729 and a 300-year-old fixture of the Broadway Market scene before closing in 2013, this local legend has recently re-launched under the aegis of new owner Tom Gibson (from Ruby’s in Dalston). Downstairs is a vintage boozer with enamelled mirrors, a long bar stretching the length of the room, local draught ales and a superior spirits selection. Upstairs is given over to Pearl’s – a cocktail bar in similar style, dispensing the likes of Pearly Queen (a lychee and lemongrass-infused take on Piña Colada). Street-food hero Ben Denner and his Licky Chops are responsible for the food in both the pub and bar: expect trendy riffs ranging from burnt broccoli with yoghurt, pickled mustard seeds and almonds to a bucket of mutton chops with potato salad and mint sauce, rounded off with churros and cappuccinos. Traditional roasts rule on Sundays.
