This is more a hangout for young Hackney than old Hackney, with one visitor muttering that ‘you can’t move for pushchairs’ at weekends, though for many it remains a post-work pit-stop. Decor in the single room is regulation mismatched furniture & exposed brick. The food nods towards the seasons & dishes are, as you’d expect in this kind of place, chalked up on a blackboard. You might find sauteed asparagus & poached egg with parmesan shavings, lamb rump with rosti potatoes, sticky prunes & swede purée, & lemon syllabub with apricot shortbread to finish. Beers include Staropramen, San Miguel & rotating bitters such as Shepherd Neame Spitfire. Mainly European wines include six choices of red & white by the glass. Expect haphazard service at busy times.
