Menier Chocolate Factory
The restaurant housed within this formidable former factory is proving to be as much of a hit with roaming gastronomes as the adjoining theatre’s off-piste productions. Menier is a suitably freewheeling space that makes the most of the 19th-century building’s quirks (chunky wood beams, exposed brick, industrial iron columns), while pre/post-show punters create their own electric atmosphere over plates of asparagus, spinach & beetroot salad, bowls of Scottish mussels with chorizo, towering burgers & sharing platters. The set menus (some themed, according to the production of the moment) & meal-plus-ticket deals are tremendous value for a night out. In short, ‘solid good food’ ahead of an evening of excellent entertainment – you might even see a few cast members lining their stomachs here beforehand. Quaffable beers & wines, too.
