The Pig’s Ear’s porcine theme runs throughout the operation, from the pictures & ornaments that depict different varieties of the snorting beast, right through to the hearty menu. But, arguably, what’s more attractive about this off-the-beaten-track haunt is the relaxed atmosphere in both the downstairs bar & upstairs bistro, where the high-quality, rustic cooking draws dedicated fans. Chilled pea & mint soup is a lovely summer dish, while roast chicken in paprika sauce is tender & flavoursome, & lemon & goats’ cheese tart a bold dessert executed with aplomb. Well-chosen wines & several guest ales make this a pub that well-heeled locals cherish.
