Square Meal review of The Spread Eagle:

Revived by an extensive refurb, The Spread Eagle has firmly re-established itself as Greenwich’s premier fine-dining spot. Maritime artwork, crisp napery & tastefully mismatched chairs instil a sense of timeless elegance & set the scene for some serious cooking with a strong French accent. A meal might begin with starters such as delicate, seared bluefin tuna with baby shrimp salad, richly satisfying poached foie gras, or oxtail ravioli with white onion soubise & asparagus. Among mains, the sweet combination of glazed Alaskan cod with sauteed pak choy & papaya is typical of the restaurant’s excursions into fusion, while a herb-crusted lamb, though tasty, is slightly overpowered by the accompanying barley & broad bean risotto. The staff are enthusiastic & are a great help when it comes to the comprehensive wine list. Downsides? The neighbouring jazz club can add an intrusive backbeat to dining here – though the good value offered by the three-course a la carte (£31) ought to be compensation enough.
