Nestled in the nook between Southwark Cathedral & the busy streets surrounding London Bridge station, La Cave is a decent wine-lovers’ hideaway that might easily be overlooked – were it not for the spacious outdoor terrace, which is quickly oversubscribed in the summer months. The kitchen delivers straightforward but beautifully presented French dishes such as braised lamb’s sweetbreads with morel cream & spinach that wouldn’t look out of place in some of Paris’s finer arrondissements, although you can also nibble on ‘delicate bites’ (aka bar snacks) including sophisticated charcuterie boards, bowls of olives & escargots, all served with bread. The bar area itself offers cosy crannies for canoodling among cushions – ideal for dates as well as after-work soirées. Service is ‘generally good’, thanks to friendly & attentive staff.
