Square Meal review of Cocoon: ? Write your own review

Famed for its ‘sexy decor & beautiful people’, this funky sequence of futuristic but warmly designed pods overlooking Regent Street offers plenty of room for cocktail-fuelled parties, but also does very nicely as a romantic destination. In familiar pan-Asian style, the ‘fantastic’ menu is designed for sharing, with seared (blowtorched, in fact) nigiri sushi & new-style sashimi prepared at two counters within the restaurant. Best-selling popcorn shrimp sushi contains tempura batter to give it crunch, while beef fillet & foie gras gyoza is typical of the wacky dim sum. Even traditional pork dumplings are made with outré spinach-infused pastry & served with Thai sweet chilli sauce. Mains such as wasabi-rubbed lamb rump & Wagyu beef with Champagne teriyaki are similarly bastardised, but wildly popular nonetheless. Service is as ‘amazing’ as the food. Cocoon’s bar is a fixture of Mayfair’s nightlife scene in its own right (see separate review).

Cocoon always delivers great food and considering its location the price fits. I got tired with Hakkasan bumping me from my table (when i could actually manage to squeeze into it and eat elbow to elbow with the table along). asking me to leave early and basically overcharging so found Cocoon a very viable alternative.
It's a good night out as the bar and restaurant tend to get quite lively. The food very very good, wine menu big enough for most wine lovers and all reasonably priced.
The only black mark is that some of the girls there (not the waitresses) are working girls who can be a nuisance and should be kept out by the management.

Cocoon has a great location, just off (and overlooking) Regent Street. It's interior must have been striking when new but has lost its appeal. The clientele is very heterogenous, service slow and the food hit and miss. Unfortunately the bar is in the middle with cocktail guests standing around the tables of diners. A flawed concept and an example of truly over priced “pan-Asia” cooking.

I introduced my boss to this restaurant when he first arrived in London from the US. Since then he's taken quite a few visitors to Cocoon, and its now one of his favourite places to go. Service is always excellent, and if you take advantage of one of the offers, then it becomes a lot more affordable, especially if you don't start drinking too many cocktails (the espresso martini is just divine).

The food is consistently good, the salt and pepper squid is excellent, as are the sushi rolls. The layout of the tables is very spacious and the chairs are very comfy, leading to spending a lot more time drinking after finishing your dinner. The only downside is that if you go too early, you might find you're the only group in there eating and its very quiet until the bar starts to fill up.

So, even though its been around for a while now, its still a pretty cool place to eat or just visit for a drink.
