Square Meal review of The Gun: ? Write your review

The Gun might not be the easiest place to find, but it’s is one of the highlights of the growing Docklands dining scene. Set on the water with great views, the pub’s dining room is a wood & white linen affair that’s a ‘refreshing change to the clinical bars of Canary Wharf’. Timbale of crab, avocado mousse & cucumber gazpacho offers a real taste of summer, while more hearty dishes include roast Welsh lamb with white bean puree & morel jus. The well-chosen wine list offers plenty of choice for all pockets, while a string of cosy rooms with armchairs & log fires leads onto a waterside terrace where, in summer, drinkers can tuck in to the Portuguese barbecue. Though detractors sound off about ‘slipping standards’ & ‘rude service’, which can make the high prices hard to stomach, for the majority, it’s still ‘well worth both the money & the walk’.

Fantastic place to enjoy a sunday roast and chill out with the papers while sitting out on the decked terrace and admiring the river view.

Food is traditional gastro pub grub, with not much innovation, however, the dishes are executed well to the most part.

That said service is particularly lacking, and alas this dampens the experience of what should be a great place to just chill, unwind and enjoy some good food and drink.
