So hectic is the human traffic in the Soho Hotel’s cocktail bar (formerly a car park) that drinkers overflow onto free tables in the restaurant area, which has been duly rejigged for a loungier feel. At peak times, of course, the shared space has quite a buzz. The menu is broadly modern European, with the addition of hotel grub such as Caesar salads, burger & fries & an off-menu club sandwich. There’s a Mediterranean slant to many of the other dishes: pea & courgette risotto comes with courgette flowers & oregano; roast sea trout with borlotti beans & chilli; even straightforward grills such as lobster with gremolata have a southern flavour. Kit Kemp’s chic, cheerful design is illuminated by trademark acid brights, & helpful, polite service ensures everyone is ‘truly looked after’.
