Square Meal review of Shochu Lounge:
Roka’s warm red woody basement is a temple to the traditional Japanese spirit, shochu. Distilled from fermented grains, it is akin to vodka & makes a good base for the bar’s superior cocktails. Left to macerate for months in-house in clay jars, with fruity, spicy or herby infusions such as blood orange (a known antioxidant), shiso (a basil-like leaf beneficial to the digestion) or lemon, shochu is a drink for the health fanatic that still likes to party. This means there’s a high chance of bumping into the likes of Madonna & her Jimmy Choo-clad mates here. Sakepolitans & punches are another fashionable draw, as is Roka’s entire menu, also served within. Diffused lighting & discreet beats make the place even more A list-friendly.
