‘There aren’t many places in London where diners can sit between an English canal & an ancient Italian olive tree’, enthuses a fan. The tranquil courtyard at Sardo Canale, younger sibling of Fitzrovia’s celebrated Sardo, may well be the only place, but that’s not its only allure. Graceful interiors, professional but friendly service & ‘superbly presented, wholesome Sardinian fare’ also entice. Come here to experience fregola al frutti di mare, a traditional dish from the sunny isle featuring toasted rounds of pasta & plump seafood in a light tomato sauce. Calf’s liver in balsamic vinegar, salt-crusted sea bass, & braised lamb wrapped in Parma ham all score highly as main courses, with pastries, poached pears & Sardinian cheese to finish. The wine list covers Italy well, but it would be a shame not to sample the Sardinian bottles. In all, a polished package.
