More intimate & formal than its sister bar, the restaurant at Tabernacle is a stylish place, with the characteristic Shoreditch industrial look softened here by a long banquette along one wall, quirky wallpaper & the equally quirky effect of a ham suspended high above the room. The menu mixes British & Italian ingredients to appealing effect: start with seared Scottish scallops, charred red peppers & sorrel mascarpone before a main course of pappardelle with an aged shorthorn beef ragu, black olives & ricotta, or grilled saltmarsh lamb with caponata & salsa verde. Desserts continue the theme & include vanilla pannacotta with English blackberries & a ricciarelli biscuit. Fizzes aside, the wine list is all-Italian & listed by region.
