The London Marriott West India Quay’s ground-floor restaurant has received the thumbs up from Wharfers after abandoning its American-style menu in favour of a seafood theme. Start with New England clam chowder, a seafood platter or oysters, followed by fresh catch of the day – pan-fried, oven-baked, grilled or steamed – from nearby Billingsgate Market, with a choice of accompaniments ranging the old school (tartare sauce) to the new school (fig, tamarind & ginger marmalade). Carnivores are catered for with rump of Welsh lamb & Normandy chicken with spinach risotto, or mix it up with ‘surf & turf’ skewers of Cornish steak & king prawns. Floor-to-ceiling windows open on to the quayside, while service is quick & efficient. The wine list is affordable, but there’s also plenty of scope to splash out.
