Square Meal review of Inn the Park:

The terrace at this St James’s Park restaurant-cum-caff is the sort of spot that can make Londoners fall in love with their city all over again, as the swans glide past on the lake & the London Eye slowly revolves over the top of Whitehall. Inside, however, it’s a very different story, with the restaurant area screened off from a noisy, municipal-feeling buffet & messy lavatories that act as public toilets for anyone passing through the park. The food is done well: hunks of gently smoked eel are set off by crispy bacon & a perfectly poached egg in a well-assembled salad, while, to follow, a flavoursome piece of halibut is happily teamed with samphire, peas & clams. But given the cramped surroundings, prices seem too dear, an impression compounded by staff with poor English delivering service that’s too often ‘lamentable’ or ‘pathetic’ when busy. Better at breakfast or afternoon tea, perhaps.
