The rambling, scruffy, interconnecting rooms & outside yard give this local an appealingly homely look, enhanced in gastropub style by mismatched tables & chairs, worn leather sofas & reclaimed coffee tables that draw a large, mixed bag of regulars, from City types to bohemians. It’s not just the decent drinks, real ales & short, affordable wine list that pleases them, it’s the food, too. The Mon-Thurs evening set menu (two courses for £10) offers simple grub decently done – mushrooms on toast & sausage & parsley mash – while a friendly a la carte menu features ploughman’s platters, pints of prawns & bowls of Thai noodles. Live music on Sundays is ‘generally good’ but ‘always loud’.
