Square Meal Review of The Junction Tavern ?

There are locals who never venture beyond this Kentish Town favourite, which gets both the ‘pub’ & ‘gastro’ bits right. The Junction’s landlords take their drink just as seriously as their food, providing handy tasting notes for moderately priced wines, & attracting real ale enthusiasts with a regularly changing line-up. Gems such as Brodie’s Mild, Exmoor Gold or Rebellion Mutiny are poured by the buoyant bar staff. No-nonsense menus include Saturday brunches (scrambled eggs & chorizo on toast) & all-day Sunday roasts. Evening meals could mean breaded pig’s cheeks with celeriac remoulade ahead of whole roasted sea bream with a zesty salsa verde, with a comfortable conclusion provided by steamed treacle sponge & custard. The conservatory is a plum setting for romantic dinners, or there’s a leafy garden out back.

It’s round the corner from me and a godsend! It sums up what gastropubs should be: good honest food that’s well cooked and served by people who remember your name – or appear to – who smile and don't rush you. The wine list is good and they deserve a special mention for offering three different sherry's by the glass! If they were open on Xmas day I would book it years ahead.

Continues to do a fabulous. Staff could give lessons on service to most of London's finest eateries.

Excellent food – i had pan fried cod fillet with sauteed potatoes and spinach, delicious and i savoured every mouthful! It was packed out on a Sunday so id advise booking – i luckily got a table with booking but can imagine usually its nigh on impossible. There is parking in the area too which is a plus! There is an excellent deal of two courses for £15 though i had the a la carte as usual. Partner had fish cakes which looked humungous as did the puddings. I really had to hold back from being ‘nicely full’ rather than my usual ‘rolling out of the front door’. Loads of familes and friendly looking pub types + dogs.

Loved it and wish it was my local – am definitely heading back!

Went back again yesterday – fantastic meal (the Sunday roast) plus mouthwatering blueberry cheesecake – AND a scruffy dog to watch me eat – blissful. Again, wish it was my local…

This place is a real gem, and is definitely worth a visit. The service is warm, and welcoming without being intrusive. The food was absolutely faultless, good honest, pub grub that was a cut above your average An excellent wine menu only contributed to the meal. Despite living close to Surrey, I will definitely make a trip there again if I'm in the area. A winner all round!
