Square Meal review of Tapas y Vino:
Next door to the upmarket La Brasserie McClements (see review), chef-patron John McClements has scored a hit with his Iberian-influenced, cheap-as-chips tapas bar. The menu splits under the headers ‘traditional cold’, ‘hot’ & ‘speciality’ tapas. From the first section, char-grilled vegetables come imbued with a strong scent of fennel, rosemary & garlic. Hot tapas offer flavoursome cream & mushroom croquettes & handsomely rendered grilled shoulder of lamb with plum chutney. The speciality tapas are the most adventurous: aromatic chicken tagine with cumin & preserved lemon, scallops on a squid ink risotto & a dainty, faintly sweet Moroccan pigeon pie. The wines, sadly, are as forgettable as the decor.
