Square Meal Review of Mint Leaf ?

Dim lights, clubby vibes & thumping beats set the scene at Mint Leaf – a glitzy, all-purpose venue aimed at the theatreland crowds, celebs & the odd premiere party. Inside there are several dining spaces, a dedicated cocktail bar & two private rooms in the nether reaches. The welcome isn’t always that great, service can be unresponsive & the most comfy tables are in the centre of the room, away from the bar. That said, the kitchen knows its stuff, delivering excellent starters of grilled paneer with pickling spices or salmon tikka, ahead of sea-bass fillets cooked in a banana leaf, khadai gosht & chicken leg with Chettinad spices. It’s not exactly ‘haute’ Indian & the bill can be weighty, but Mint Leaf still has a lot to offer. Enjoy the glamour & wear what you like.

I went to this restaurant yesterday. The food was too average, the bar staff where over worked, and the meeter and greeter young girls (as they all looked like hormonal teenagers) were not very helpful and again rushed of their feet and lacked mature social skills (apart from an attractive red-haired one who was extremely friendly and assertive, I even tipped as she was very welcoming and well spoken). I have eaten in many Indian restaurants and this was greatly disappointing. I waited too long for my food, the bar staff looked fed up but their cocktails were good. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, its a complete rip off!!! It is a typical restaurant that cateres to rip off tourist and hotel stayers. The art decor is cheap but trying to pull off an exclusive look. Save your money and go elsewhere!

Went here as I attended an event at the Haymarket Hotel right opposite. They had an offer on for 2 for 1 cocktails before 7pm and 50% off food which I thought was a good deal.

I had 2 cocktails, my partner had 2 beers at the bar and we shared a bottle of wine (not from the high end of the list).

The 2 for 1 didn't materialise on my cocktails (I guess you have to order them at the same time to qualify) and the quality of the cocktail was poor.

The 50% off food only applied, we were told when seated, if we ordered a starter and main. That wasn't made very clear when booking.

We both ordered chicken biryani for the main and it was served in the most ridiculously tiny pots. Taste wise it was ok but no better than from our local indian.

Total bill was a shade over £82 which I thought was outrageous for what is essentially a posh curry house.

It's very dark inside and the atmosphere is bit dull.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY this is the worst Indian ever I reckon you are better of eating McDonalds a lot more filling and better value for money this restaurant is a travesty for food definately not Indian as I am Indian and the food is presented ina pretentious way and it is dull tasteless something akin to chewing lemon grass.
The portions are small over priced you are paying for their rent and rates nothing more.
The service well it is poor to non existant the waiters can barely speak english or are extremely dumb.
We had so many wrong orders we kept having to remind the waiters over and over and then slow delivery of some main dishes which arrived when we had finished or given up.
My daughter 11 ordered an apple juice she got an alcohol based cocktail on reporting this we never even got an apology this place should be shut down
you have been warned as for the people saying this was the best indian they ever had they obviously have never eaten indian and know nothing about it so should stay home or better still not bother leaving uneducated reviews…

the reason the decor is so dark and the lights dimmed is so you dont see the rip off going on.

I had dinner here last night, and I was really pleased, the staff were very helpful and knew what they were talking about, I went with three other friends, and we tried some lovely dishes, such as the duck and bhoonas, the food was out timely, and the wine was wonderful, its a great venue and would be perfect for large bookings or a party, great place for a first date, as it has a great atmospehre and great mood lighting, I will be back again. It is quite pricey though, so get someone else to pay!

We had a fantastic time at the Mint Leaf. The food was outstanding and of a high quality. The service is attentive and the atmosphere cool and relaxed. The cocktails are expensive but the wine list catered well offering a tasteful range of red and white wines. I will definitely be going back and can recommend the Mint Leaf to anyone who wants a taste of fine Indian cuisine at an affordable price.

I went to this restaurant based on the positive reviews it received and a one star score from the square meal, but I have to say I was extremely disappointed . The food reminded me of eating a bad takeaway that leaves a nasty aftertaste. We ordered the soft shell crab that seemed to be their popular signature dish, it came out looking like something that you would get from a take away fish and chip shop, and the delicate flavour of the crab was masked by a thick gooey batter. The lamb seekh kebab were literally logs of meat (lamb) smothered in garlic and nothing much else. At 120 pounds for the meal, honestly I would rather have got a take away kebab. I may feel sick after, but at least I would have enjoyed the flavours whilst eating it.

To be fair though, the service was good, and the atmosphere was try hard trendy. The music felt like you were in a nightclub. Overall it seems like a place you would go to to be seen as opposed to enjoying a great meal. If your after really good indian food try chutney mary for the same price. Incredible food, great atmosphere and stunning service.

Probably the best Indian I have ever tasted. Be prepared though to descend into the dungeon of darkness, eat in very “black” and eclectic surroundings. Service is discreet and slick and the food sensationally matches the pricing but for a meal this good, it's worth a visit. I can sympathise with the Pit ponies in days or yore, take your sunglasses as the daylight is blinding on exit!

Always a pleasure to drop into Mint Leaf for a curry with a difference. With its sleek look, dark teaks and a throughly modern yet members club atmosphere attached, it makes for a nice dinner out for just about any occasion. Food is well thought and above your ordinary indian. Don't expect a long menu full of oily regulars but instead carefully constructed contemporary twists. As an on/off visitor I've seen it change chefs and menu's, which hasn't affected the choice thankfully but if memory serves right portion sizes are not as generous as once were. One thing that has slipped a little since opening is service, which needs a little attention but is by no means of a diabolical standard or anywhere close. Overall a nice restaurant to walk into spontaneously if you are in the area or for a casual yet impression making dinner.
