The King’s Road is an unlikey setting for a theme restaurant celebrating New Orleans in all its sinful glory, but call into this good-timing crabshack most nights & you’ll find the place at full tilt. Wipe-clean chequered tablecloths, plastic lobster bibs, wackily titled dishes, a Tequila-heavy cocktail list & thumping live music all say ‘to hell with it’ – a message reinfornced by the gut-busting menu. It may be all about size, but the kitchen knows where it’s at: extra-meaty St Louis-style spare ribs are slathered in a moreish sauce, butter-drenched whole lobsters are sweet & juicy, & sides of just-right fries or crunchy coleslaw do the business. Friendly service comes with the territory, although staff sometimes overdo the schmoozy ‘deep-south’ camaraderie. ‘Don’t come here if you’re on a diet’, warns one reader.
