A modern interior with vertiginous stripes & a surreal glass frame in the window would be enough to distinguish the bright-orange Origin Asia amid a drab row of restaurants. Yet it’s the good cooking, not just of classics but also involving more original ideas – fried whitebait with garlic & caraway seeds, lime & turmeric-marinated lobster stir-fried in a pepper & fennel masala, duck pot-roasted with garlic, cumin & coriander – that leaves a lasting impression. The kitchen seems occasionally overwhelmed by its more inventive impulses, but the results are satisfying even when they don’t quite live up to their menu descriptions.
