Despite one reader complaining that Bermondsey Kitchen has ‘gone seriously downhill’, everyone else praises the place for its easy-going atmosphere & high-quality cooking based on ingredients from Borough Market & other local suppliers. The short modern-Med menu changes on a daily basis, but you’ll usually detect an Italian or Iberian accent in dishes of caldo verde (a Portuguese soup of greens & chorizo), sea bass with sorrel & salsa verde, or rabbit stew with green olives. Weekend brunch, offering variations on eggs Benedict & the full English, is popular; & the short wine list has well-written notes & reasonable prices attached to each bottle – few bins come in at over £25. A thoroughly modern blend of relaxed gastropub atmosphere & restaurant-quality food.
