Square Meal review of Plateau:

This futuristic glass-enclosed crucible of Canary Wharf power dining continues to draw a high-end clientele with modern electic food, chic furnishings & views over leafy Canada Square. Offering a roomy refuge from the casual grill & bustling bar (see separate review), the formal restaurant is where chef Tim Tolley shows off his skill with bold, often Asian-inspired flavours, especially in beautifully presented seafood dishes. A refreshing squid salad with chilli & creme fraiche might be followed by scrumptious lamb with a striking black trumpet-mushroom crust, with a rich, oozing Valrhona chocolate cake to finish. The light-filled location, ‘inventive’ food & ‘fantastic bar staff’ all get the thumbs-up &, while the wine mark-ups raise eyebrows, universal praise goes to the brilliant sommelier who can pluck the perfect match from the elegant list. The rest of the service is less consistent, sometimes ‘friendly’ & ‘attentive’, other times ‘slow’ & occasionally ‘dreadful’. Roomy table 205, in the centre of the dining room, is the best for special occasions.
