Square Meal review of Taman Gang:
Although this sprawling basement restaurant is no longer a haunt of the glitterati, the decor still looks fresh & appealing, with huge floral arrangements & glowing candlelight casting a warm – if somewhat feeble – glow against the distressed stonework. Efficient & upbeat waiting staff try their hardest with the sprinkling of couples, tourists & well-heeled locals, but the thudding house music soundtrack & disgruntled-looking DJ dampen the mood. On the plate, main course options are notable largely for their hefty price tags, so the best advice is to stick to smaller dishes, such as plump, glossy prawn dumplings, moreish soft-shell crab tempura or fresh tuna tartare laced with lively wasabi tobiko (flying-fish roe) & caviar. Cocktails – particularly the Raspberry Mule – are recommended.
