Since re-emerging as part of the Gordon Ramsay stable, this famous Chelsea bistro has not been fêted like GR’s flagship restaurant down the road; consequently, a few tweaks have apparently been mooted for 2012, including a corner bar & a terrace with extra seating. Currently, the warm terracotta walls, teal banquettes, brass lamps & 1940s’ press photos are at glamorous odds with the chintzy cushions & cramped tables. Custom comes from Ramsay followers, genteel locals & corporate schmoozers, who order unpretentious, mainly British dishes such as pea soup with sautéed girolles & lardons, or the house fish pie with broccoli. Grumbles about ‘disappointing food’ & poor value suggest that first-timers might be better served by the set deal, which offers a potted version of the menu at £22 for three courses.
