Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell & Bob Dylan all played here in the 60s, & the ramshackle Troubadour is still cluttered with LP sleeves, musical instruments, coffee pots & memorabilia from the hippie years. Nowadays, however, it’s a leftfield mix of live-music venue, coffee shop, bar & casual eatery – all driven by the charismatic charms of its formidable owner. The food is an eclectic mash-up of burgers, fish & chips, spicy beef empanadas, funky salads, omelettes & more besides, while drinks bring unusual German & Belgian beers plus small-parcel Argentinian tipples from the annexed wine shop next door. A quaint garret room is available to hire, live gigs & poetry readings are on every night in the late-night basement bar, & The Troubadour even has its own magical garden.
