Regulars worried that Kazan’s refurbishment might signal a departure from its trademark take on Ottoman opulence can breathe a sigh of relief. This fabulous Turkish restaurant has lost none of its luxurious appeal: antique lamps & silk cushions may have given way to sleek contemporary looks, but the soft glow from teardrop-shaped lights & the privacy afforded by ornate screens still create a fabulously romantic atmosphere. The kitchen shows its class with specialities ranging from char-grilled baby poussin marinated with yoghurt, lemon & chilli to a seafood stew served with giant bulgur wheat, although it’s hard to resist the ‘Ottoman feast’ with its array of hot & cold mezze, grills & assorted desserts. Drink ice-cold Efes beer or pick something Turkish from the wine list.
