Is it a bar? Is it an art gallery? Or is it a caff? Herne Hill’s Escape Bar doesn’t seem quite sure what it wants to be when it grows up, but until then it’s having plenty of fun slipping from easygoing eatery for local yummy mummies by day to cool drinking spot by night. The menu’s pretty basic – ciabatta sarnies & pizzas – but the quality of the ingredients is high &, in a tomato & pesto bruschetta, zingily fresh. After dark you can chug beers or get stuck into a brief but classy cocktail list that features the Sapphire Mojito – Bombay Sapphire gin, pomegranate juice, elderflower cordial, lime & mint. There’s also an eco-tourism venture run from the space, along with various other nods to the green zeitgeist.
