Fighting for attention with the glut of market stalls on Whitecross Street, ‘hidden gem’ Pham Sushi is a smart little café-style Japanese eatery serving around 20 kinds of nigiri sushi, plus even more versions of sushi rolls, including the ‘flying dragon’ (eel, topped with ikura, or salmon roe), the ‘samurai’ (with prawn tempura) & ‘to die for’ tuna assemblages. You’ll also find plenty of tempting appetisers, such as deep-fried squid tentacles or grilled chicken in yakitori sauce, while mains (mostly sub-£10) promise the likes of teriyaki steak or grilled eel on rice. There are bento boxes, too, & everything is delivered with friendliness, speed & efficiency. If you’re after a quick takeaway, the best bet is to nip across the road to Pham Sushi’s little sibling.
