Run by the Searcys catering company, 1802 feeds visitors to the adjacent Museum of London Docklands, plus many locals. The kitchen delivers a compact menu of British-accented dishes, including devilled duck livers on toast, grilled Barnsley chop with garlic & anchovies, & plaice with samphire & Morecambe Bay shrimps. Desserts follow suit, with such old-school classics as Eton mess or apple crumble with custard. If you’re pushed for time, choose the one-course ‘fast track’ menu, which will get you fed & finished within 45 minutes. In the evenings, the vast sugar warehouse conversion (dating from 1802) transforms into a funky bar with finger foods (pork crackling with spiced apple relish), an attractively priced wine list & a brilliant selection of beers – including a handful of Belgian brews. Happy hour runs from just after 6pm (that’s 18:02). Brunch attracts crowds at weekends, & a whopping terrace seats many in fine weather.
