Square Meal Review of Bodean's Soho ?

The oak-burning smoke pits at Bodean’s are dedicated to delivering ‘down home specials’ & all-important slow-smoked BBQ ribs with the power to reduce homesick yanks to tears of joy. Live sports from across the pond, a pumping soundtrack & frosty mugs of beer only add to the excitement of a visit to this transatlantic diner. Bodean’s is a ‘great high-energy place to start your evening & line your stomach’, though even its long-time fans fear it’s not quite what it was (ingredients can be ‘disappointing’, for instance). Even so, the much-expanded menu of culinary Americana is still darned hard to resist: wondrous helpings of ‘superb’ pulled pork, baby back ribs, BBQ chicken, sides of creamed corn & chilli cheese fries, plus deli sandwiches, steaks & burritos are pure road-trip heaven.

  1. Bodean’s is a restaurant for all lovers of meat, as that is all you’ll find on the menu – bar a few side dishes. The successful London chain has been around for a while with restaurants in Clapham, Tower Hill, Fulham, Balham and Soho. We decided to venture to the more central location of Soho. The interior is exactly how you imagine a typical American restaurant, with plenty of dark wood panelling and many booths for privacy. There are also various flat screen TV scattered around the restaurant for all the sports enthusiasts...

    The Hungry Porker :: Bodean’s

    This has been my Soho saviour on many occasions. With so much to choose from in the area, sometimes all you need is the safe option of a pulled pork sandwich, a pint of Sam Adams and thirty minutes of watching some American sport you don’t understand but convince yourself that you really care about. Bodean’s gives you all of this. Today it was USA vs. Russia in the Winter Olympics ice hockey. There was whooping and hollering in true Yank style from plenty of the diners. It’s hard not to like the place, even if you do find these people bloody annoying...

    The Funky Truth :: The Year of the Pig?

    Bodean’s has a lot in common with Burger & Lobster. They’re both what I would call hipster mini-chains (though Bodean’s uses the term ‘diner deli’), a chain restaurant for people who would either a) wear a checked shirt or b) not mind queuing a bit for relatively unassuming but decent food. Both operate five restaurants in London; Bodean’s fifth is coming soon, to Balham. Both their websites piss me off – Burger & Lobster’s is one of those unnavigable art house shithouses that exists simply to tell people that there might be restaurants out and about that possibly serve burger and/or lobster, but why don’t you turn up, queue and find out for yourself?...
