The Barnsbury

A quiet, shady patio area with hanging baskets & planters brimful of rosemary makes a pleasant place to spend a summer’s evening, while the cosily elegant interior provides shelter in winter. The Barnsbury has a reasonably priced wine list, split between old favourites & some adventurous choices. The menu reflects the split, offering the likes of a brightly coloured halibut ceviche with guacamole & an escabeche of red onions as well as the obligatory rib-eye steak with chips & salad. Sadly the cooking, although well executed, fails to provide excitement – standards have definitely slipped since the Barnsbury’s glory days a year or so ago. But as a modern re-working of an old-fashioned pub it works a treat as a nice place for a drink.
