Square Meal Review of Sketch: Gallery ?

Originally Christian Dior’s flagship boutique, Sketch’s exclusive Gallery still drips with designer cool. A dressed-to-thrill crowd sink into chairs of hand-woven velvet beneath trippy displays of video art, while photogenic staff in sailor tops bop to a pumping DJ soundtrack. While dinner could so easily be all about the party, consultant chef Pierre Gagnaire manages to grab some attention for the food – especially when the bill arrives. An exemplary foie-gras terrine with pickled girolles & tamarillo paste is a whopping £22, while sparkling fresh sea-bass carpaccio with redcurrant & horseradish jelly comes in at £16. There’s no let-up on the couture pricing when it comes to rib-eye of beef with Bordelaise sauce & onion puree (£32), unless you prefer the paucity of a cauliflower risotto at £12. Extravagantly marked-up wines are as eccentric as the infamous alien-egg loos.

    Sketch Gallery is a vibrant sophisticated and fun place. The interior is amazing! The screens with strange cartoons and symbols frolicking keep you entertained, as does the general decor of a futuristic funland. The people watching is fantastic, and the food is not bad at all! All very modern and fresh – I had a starter of lobster bisque followed by steak tartar, and neither disappointed although I wish I had room for dessert! The newspaper style drinks menu was fun and offered some tasty cocktails. And of course… no visit to Sketch is complete without a visit to the loos. Enjoy this masterpiece of British eccentricty.

    Sketch Gallery is a great restaurant night out- a desination in itself!

    The food matches the interior, innovative & fresh. I can't think of another restaurant that is consistently a good time as the Gallery.

    Love the crowd that come there, dressed smartly, fashion sets, you can't overdo it at a place like this.

    A must for Londoners & out-of-towners- good for foodies too.
