Matsuri’s interior may be an exercise in minimalism, but it’s a modern, bright retreat from the bustle of traffic outside on High Holborn. Diners can choose between sitting at normal tables & chairs in the main dining room, at stools around one of the longest sushi counters in the UK, or around teppanyaki grills in the basement, where they get to watch the polished, practised knife skills of the chefs. The food is pretty traditional in style – plump pieces of sushi, crisp tempura & teriyaki-marinated meats & fish – but its appeal lies in the top-notch quality of the ingredients & the skill with which they are cooked.
